Currently on our first lap of Oz and as first time caravanners, learning a whole lot as we go! :)

Our happy place has always been with our bare feet on the ground, salt air in our lungs and the smell of campfire in our hair.

Working out how to do it full-time, well, that was the challenge. 😊

It’s so easy to fall in love with Caravans at the shows. . .so being all clever and wise, that’s exactly what we did. . .And in the end it was Marvel that got our money!

With my (Christian’s) love of cinematography, the moving image is a big part of our life. Consquently, our Youtube channel is a massive part of what we do. You’ll find the link to the full clip in our bio. 🙌 These spots were kind of unexpected delights, to be honest. Kind of just tripped around and found some lovely spots along the way to other places and ended up really enjoying it. We discovered how the weather plays such a massive part in Tasmania and you really have to be quite flexible with your plans if you want good experiences in nice places. One of the cool things about travelling. Tonight is Oakey Premium Wagyu Porterhouse from Murray Bridge @drakessupermarkets , thick cut rib fillet from Mount Pleasant Butchery and an SGM from @msvwine of Greenock in the Barossa Valley. So from here, on day 6 of Quarantine in Kununurra, we’re still enjoying the best of South Australia’s produce. Life could be a lot worse.... oh and we just ordered another 6 bottles of a sparkling from the Barossa that only costs $20 a bottle and is straight up better than almost anything Australian (apart from @jansztasmania) under $50. The Barossa definitely held some treats. You might see that one in a video soon. When I catch up! 😂 On the steak, simple little thing... salt, pepper and garlic powder after a dry brine for the afternoon. 😌 Hope you’re happy and safe wherever you are. 🙏❤️

Our time here was special and as the weather improved, it became the running joke “Maybe just one more day!” 😂 But seriously, it’s something you get used to very quickly and on the recommended list! Epic white sand, beautiful blue water, stunning red and orange rocks - there’s a lot to explore and so much to see. I have been waiting for this moment for... well.... a long time. 15 years? Not sure. This is Lake Eyre in SA. We camped on its banks, staring out across the seemingly endless expanse of white at a free camp we found on WikiCamps. I walked out again at 1am in the morning and nearly got lost shooting time lapse. If it hadn’t of been for ExplorOz maps, which I almost didn’t take, I would have been sleeping outside in the 4°C night until it was light. Out on that lakebed, in the salty mud, surrounded by nothing but salt and stars I experienced something I never expected. Fear. It was so overwhelming. So quiet. So...alien. I’d never felt so vulnerable. I’d also never seen stars like that. To be surrounded by a complete dome all the way to each horizon in every direction. It is probably the closest feeling to being in space as I’ve ever known. Crazy, crazy experience. This is from our daytime walk though. The kids were blown away. Kate was blown away. We all felt very grateful. We also had to recover the van from the bog... but you’ll have to wait and see that on YouTube. Loving the desert so far. ❤️❤️❤️

More desert #gramspam 😂👌 We were supposed to be leaving Marree tomorrow. But now there is a wind warning and maybe 100km/h gusts at Lake Eyre where we planned on staying tomorrow night. We’re going to have to stick around another night down here in Marree and wait out the weather - hit the road the day after. Still following a super loose plan and finding lots of places to see - also developed a taste for West End Draught. 🙌 These ruins in the photo too - they are everywhere! Roofless structures. Apparently the reason there are none with roofs is a thing that started in Ireland. If the structure had no roof, you didn’t have to pay rates. So when people left, they destroyed the structures to avoid mounting debt to the state. 🤷‍♂️ Seems legit? What do you reckon? Regardless, they make for eery, interesting and cool places to explore.... and the frames the windows make are really interesting. Loving the vibes. ❤️🙌

It’s been a while between posts... we’ve been busy... MIA, working, travelling, offline, off grid... and weirdly, I find it hard to decide what to put here in the feed. Pressure. Is it good enough... hahah even this shot - I looked at and thought, nah, not good enough. I had planned something pretty special for the huge cliff to the right of this shot, but didn’t manage it....Will have to save that technique for another time. But back to the chase. We escaped the Barossa, head through the Flinders... so much beauty down there! So many shots, but we weren’t really off grid.... here though, in this frame, is Parachilna Gorge 3 (find it on WikiCamps) epic free camp, deadset stunning surrounds and the beauty of this area just floored us. Not a sound. Not a light. Hardly anybody. Even today, heading north, I don’t think any of us have ever been so excited. It’s stupidly enthusiastic, but I can’t stop laughing... something about the desert, the wide open spaces and the room for you to breathe out here.... it’s special. Speaks to the soul. Also, the skies are getting crazier, this is the dim tail of the Milky Way! The main event I didn’t stay up late enough for. Maybe at Lake Eyre in a couple of days. 🤞 More soon. 👌 Miss you guys! Feels so good to be back on the road, fun surf this arvo, swimming with the family, cold water excitement, few frothies, a cheese plate and Dale learning how to solder. All in a days work and play. 🙌

It’s been 3 weeks since we left Tasmania. Admin in Melbourne, a quick trip to Peterborough which we thought would be the start or our journey to SA and then I had some urgent work I had to go back to the coast for. On top of that, a bit of a health related hiccup within the family saw Katie and the girls fly up to the Sunshine Coast as well. So the best laid plans didn’t quite work out the way we’d hoped. But it’s looking back on this kind of stuff that is making us excited to get back to the van life... Now, we know this lap is not exactly the standard... interestingly, we lose followers every time we post stuff that seems a bit too real.... that isn’t the dreamy, on the road, loving the van life, living our best life wankery... but we are not the standard. We don’t dream of being insta famous - actually couldn’t care less. We just want be honest in what we post and if you like it awesome. If not, that’s totally fine too.... but if you want the perfectly manicured, curated experience. All perfect all the time.... there are so many other accounts on Insta for that. Sometimes you get lucky... The Aurora Australis Tasmania page was lighting up. I’d seen a picture of a lovely Aurora display in the window of a permanent van where we were staying in Peterborough on the Great Ocean Road and I knew you could sometimes see them looking South even from Victoria. We’d been on the beers all arvo and at 11pm the clouds parted and I decided to take a walk down the beach with my buddy Ash. Good thing we did too, as it just so happened that there was a huge amount of green glow and just enough time to snap off a couple of frames. This one is a rough edit - one frame of a 6 shot pano I’ll likely put on the wall at home on canvas. Hope you like it. 🙏
